Palamino: Yummy food that I can't afford on my own

So I went to this restaurant downtown, a couple of nights ago, but I haven't gotten a chance to post something about it until now. My uncle took a friend, my godmother, my sister, and I down to the Embarcadero to eat at the Palamino Restaurant.

It was my first time eating at Palamino. For those of you who have never eaten there either, bring a hefty sack of cash with you if you go. Being a broke college student, my sphere of fine dining is limited to the cafeteria and to-go places on Clement. Basically, I'm ok spending about $5-$10 on meals.

With that said, I was awed by how fancy the Palamino was. By fancy, I mean very well decorated, well located, and expensively priced. Don't be surprised if entrees run $15 to $40 a plate. I know that may not be that much some people, but for a girl who carries 20 bucks max in cash, it seemed quite expensive. Now, I say "expensive." I didn't say "overpriced" because if I could imagine food that would be worth that much money, I would think of the menu at Palamino.

My uncle, who was treating all of us, had eaten there before. He seemed to know what all the good things to order were, so we all just followed his lead. We had passion fruit mojitos. Delicious. $5.

For appetizers, we had crispy thin pizza crust pieces with a crab dip. I would bring home a jar of that dip if I could. It would make great (but expensive) sandwiches!

For dinner, my sister and I split lobster ravioli. The lobster was, of course, delicious. The pasta was sweet and tender. It sure beats my usual microwavable Instant Mac & Cheese.

For dinner, we ordered their special tiramisu! Our friend, Marina, who was eating with us is from Italy. She told us that "tiramisu" in Italian means "cheer me up!" Very cute. That little tidbit of trivia makes me love the dessert even more!  Thanks, Uncle Dan!
