I Can See Clearly Now: How I Learned to Love My Glasses

The other day, I was hanging out with one of my best friends Karina and she asked if the pair of glasses I was wearing was prescription or if it was just for looks. It was only then that I realized I had become someone I never thought I'd be-- a regular glasses wearer!

Thanks,

I wasn't always comfortable wearing glasses in public. I used to wear contacts exclusively in high school and college because I thought I looked pretty terrible in my glasses. And so for years, my glasses were my secret night-time companions, along with my retainer, zit cream and endless hours of Nick at Nite reruns. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I was super cool.

These days I find myself reaching for my (plastic-framed) glasses more and more often than my contacts. It doesn't really matter whether I blame it on our pollen-infested California spring seasons or on eight hours a day of staring at a computer screen for work, but my eyes get so dry and scratchy after a day of wearing contacts that it can literally feel like someone sprinkled a handful of gravel or cinnamon onto my eyeballs-- anyone who's ever watched someone do the

cinnamon challenge

will know what I'm talking about. Glasses are a lot more comfortable. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I've discovered the value of comfort. It's a good thing.

Now I love my glasses and, thanks to bespectacled hipsters everywhere, I feel pretty cool too.
