I Wish I Were in Australia

After almost three weeks at home and a 10-hour return flight, I'm back in England. Back home it's about 50°F and here in Oxford it's 32°F. Everywhere I look, the ground is covered with a thick layer of fresh snow. Apparently, it's rare for snow to last here for more than a few days. It usually melts a day or two after it stops snowing, but for some reason, the snow is sticking around. Because it's such a rare occurrence for it to stay on the ground, people here aren't used to shoveling their sidewalks. As a result, the sidewalks are covered with a muddy slush. Don't get me wrong. I've loved the past three months here in England, but it is so darn cold. As a California native, I'm just not used to this.

This is the view outside my window. The snow isn't very thick, just icy and inconvenient.

I just came across an article on Yahoo News about it being the hottest night in Australia in about 100 years. At midnight, the temperature in Melbourne was 34C or 93F! This is midnight, people! I'll have to remember to move to the southern hemisphere during these winter months. Then it can be summer all year round.
