Nook Update

Nook Update

Well, I've officially had 3 whole days with my new Nook Simple Touch and I love it! I had some problems initially with getting my WiFi to work at home. I just need to adjust the settings on my router. My solution in the meantime has been to download books using the free WiFi at work, and also downloading books to my Mac and syncing it to my Nook.

I currently have about 30 books in my 'library' [with a built-in capacity of 1,000 and option of additional SD card] and I happily haven't paid for a single one. What I love about the Nook [that isn't as readily available yet on the Kindle] is the freedom and ease with which I can get free books on other websites and borrow from public libraries. I can pretty much download any free book in ePub format. So far, my favorite free book site is Project Gutenburg. They have over 36,000 free books that have lapsed into public domain-- which translates into: Up for Grabs!

Among others, I have:

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • The Divine Comedy by Dante
  • Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes
  • A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
  • The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie
  • Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchanan
