Quarantine Life: Day 2, Home Office Setup

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that Grant and I are fortunate we can work from home during this public health emergency, but that means we had to find a work space solution that works for both an editor and a salesman. Our solution: three laptops, one monitor, a keyboard, a mouse and two 12-can boxes of La Croix. For the next three weeks, or possibly longer, those are the building blocks of our new home office (aka our dining room).

I do a lot of reading, writing, editing and responding to emails in my job. Having two screens is essential. I hooked up my work laptop to a monitor and stacked the monitor onto a 12-pack box of La Croix sparkling water. It’s the perfect size for my monitor base. When I want an improvised stand-up desk for ergonomic purposes, I just stack another box of La Croix. It’s not perfect, but it works. I also keep my MacBook Air next to me so we can have soft background music while we work.

Grant’s an outside salesman, so he doesn’t need as much work space as I do. All he needs is his laptop and his phone because he spends quite a bit of his work day taking customer orders and talking with his support team. At first, I had a hard time staying focused while Grant was on the phone, but he has since then graciously offered to step into the bedroom and close the door whenever he has to make a call. I’m happy to report that our arrangement is working wonderfully so far. We’ll keep you posted.

This daily blog post series is our way of sharing our experience with you, our readers. We’ll talk about our daily routines, adjustments to working from home, recipes based on limited ingredients and any other topic that comes to mind. It’s our way of connecting with the “outside” world, while also giving us the opportunity to look within and reflect on what we’re experiencing and how we’re feeling. Thanks for your interest in sharing this journey with us. Stay tuned and be well.
